Meerpet Municipality is a newly constituted Urban Local Body Vide G.O. MS No.100 Dated 11.04.2016. It is strategically located and shares boundary with GHMC, Badangpet Nagarpanchayat and Jillelaguda Municipality. It is surrounded by many prestigious Central Government Defence Units such as MIDHANI, BDL, DRDL, RCI, ARCI etc., and the defence employees prefer to reside in Meerpet Municipality. It is often referred as “Mini India” as most of the residents migrated from various parts of India in the last decade. It is one of the highest growth rate recorded Local Body in Telangana State. It is a haven for the middle class people with a blend of Urban and rural population.
Meerpet Municipality is densely populated ULB which has a population of 66982 as per 2011 census with an area of 4.20 Sq. Kms. The population as per 2001 census was mere 12935. It has 11135 No. of Houses (as per Demand Registers) and 18000 No. of House Holds as per Samagra Kutumba Survey held in 2014. It has a slum population 35100 as per 2011 census with 52.4% in 9 notified Slums.
